Workshop : English for Teachers with PGRI (EFT)
Group : 1
Resume : 2nd
Topic : English for Teaching
Speaker : Ms. Meyrisa Anggriani, S.Pd., Gr
Moderator
: Mr. Nehemia S. Undjung
For this second meeting the materials discussed were about some English sentences that can be applied in the class during teaching delivered by Ms. Ang and guided by Mr. Nehemia.
Ms. Ang explained to us how to use simple English sentences in English as well as gave some examples:
Furthermore, Ms. Ang also explained about "imperative sentence" in English.
From the discussions about the use of simple English sentences in the classroom, some points can be underlined. They are:
💎it can be one of the ways to make the students familiar with English.
💎it can encourage the students to speak up.
The discussion today was so useful and interesting. Some teachers had chances to share their experience in using English in the class and some others asked questions to the speaker.
There was a question from the participant about the accent used in English. Yeap...My students also often asked me this question, about the accent. They were afraid if they couldn't follow one of the accents in speaking English, for example British or American. Similar to the explanation from Ms.Ang, Ms.Phia and others, I also told my students no need to worry about the accent, just speak up.
This is also one of my ways in improving my speaking skill, just deliver the ideas. Hopefully, it can be understood by others😊.
Then, it was explained that having correct pronunciation is more essential.
At the last minute, I also had a chance to ask a question. I ask about the tips for motivating and encouraging the students to speak up. I've tried some strategies and tried to get closer and be in their positions to make them fall in love with English. However, those ways worked for some students, not for lovely others. And sometimes those ways were effective for my students' passive English skills only but not for active ones. Hopefully, having some more tips or creative ideas from amazing teachers in this group could be some references of effective ways or solutions to motivate or encourage the students to speak up, and the important one to keep English in their heart.
Alhamdulillah...from the speaker and others, I noted some ideas. The ice breaking given by Ms. Ang in this zoom meeting and also the interesting activities explained by Ms. Phia could be the ways that should be tried in the class. Thank you...😊
Yes...Creating
interesting and various challenging activities in the classroom can be
the ways to motivate and make the students be confident and brave to
speak. And for us, the teachers, NEVER GIVE UP HOPE💪💪💪😊
One
reason that makes this group is great is there are many humble persons
or teachers who want to transfer knowledge, share creative ideas in
teaching English and give many chances to improve English.
So, everybody lets' learn English step by step and our English will be better. Keep your spirit always....great teachers💪💪
